Counselling for Adults
I work with adults from all walks of life in-person or online. The duration of therapy is dependent on your needs and we can discuss this at your free consultation. I am also a counselling tutor and offer reduced rates for counselling students who require counselling sessions as part of their placement.
There are many reasons you may be choosing to come to counselling. Often there is a catalyst that brings clients into the therapy room, a big life event or trauma. Sometimes it is a childhood trauma that is calling to be re-examined or a sense of stuckness or powerlessness. We will work in an intuitive way to move through difficult emotions and to restore a sense of wellbeing and flow.
I am a person-centred, neuro-affirming therapist which means I meet you as the unique individual that you are and find ways to work collaboratively with you that feel in line with your way of being. The choice of modalities and techniques that we work with are informed by your individuality.
I have a specific interest in working with people who are experiencing the mid-point in their lives and are rediscovering and reevaluating who they are. Many people reach an age where they start to reexamine their lives as their identity begins to shift into a new way of being. This time of life is often accompanied by loss, loss of parents, divorce, loss of career. However, I feel that this point in life is also often an opportunity to find a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and a greater acceptance of self.
Counselling for Young People
I hold an enhanced DBS and am a fully registered member of the BACP. I have worked extensively with young people, both in schools and as part of a wider counselling service. I work with young people of all ages, however I am specifically passionate about working with teens. I feel that the formative teen years are an extremely delicate time for many young people and having a safe, compassionate space in which to reflect and grow can be tremendously valuable.
Clients present with a variety of issues and I work in a Person-Centred way, which means that I create a space where the young person can explore their own responses and emotions and may gradually move towards a place of self-acceptance.
I am also a Neuro-Affirming therapist which means that I support my clients to value and embrace their own unique identities. We are a neurodiverse society and as such one size definitely does not fit all. I work collaboratively with clients to foster a deeper sense of authenticity, autonomy, and personal empowerment. The way in which we work together can differ from person to person, some clients prefer to work only with talking therapy and other clients prefer a mixture of talking therapy and creative methods.
I work with a variety of issues, including but not restricted to: ASD, ADHD, Anxiety, Identity, Depression, Bereavement, Relationships, Bullying, Self Esteem, Shame, Trauma, Abuse.
